TWD: Peanut Butter Torte

Submitted by admin on Tuesday, 6 May 200810 Comments

I almost forgot about this post, then I just smelled Lenny scooping out the peanut butter from the jar for lunch … I love to do that as well! YUM! Anyhow, Elizabeth over at Ugg Smell Food was our hostess with the mostest this week for the Tuesdays with Dorie event. Elizabeth went with the Peanut Butter Torte for our challenge. While I love peanut butter and peanut butter cups, I was not to excited for this recipe, maybe because of all the extra “peanuts” in it – I hate to eat a plain old peanut, I know weirdo! Even though my excitement was not with this recipe, I pulled myself together and did the challenge.

I did decide to make minis instead of one big one, figured that way, if we don’t like it, we can give it away! As well, I used DARK CHOCOLATE chips for the filling crunch and the ganache.  The recipe was was pretty straightforward and very easy, never had any problems and it came out perfectly! I did skip the extra peanuts on the ganache, though, that was just too many for me!

The taste verdict …. it was lighter than I thought it would be, the espresso powder covered nuts and chips definitely added an extra surprise to the filling and you can’t go wrong with an oreo cookie and butter crust, right? Lenny thought it was good, I thought it was okay; but, neither of us were jumping for joy. If you love peanut butter, oreo cookies, lots of heavy cream and cream cheese, this is the recipe for you!

I’m not a fan of peanuts either, so I left most of them out. I think the crust is my favorite part. The mini torte is very cute!

I don’t know if it will be a keeper for me, but it was a fun (and expensive) one to try!!

I don’t like plain peanuts either…so I left the vast majority out. We liked it and my kids loved it. If I make it again, it will be at their request.

I made minis as well. We loved it even though it is pretty decadent!

I think it would have been better without the extra peanuts. I love PB and peanuts and it was a little too peanutty for my taste.

Making minis is a great idea b/c this dessert is VERY rich IMO. Bummer its not your favorite but I guess Dorie can’t win them all. Great job nonetheless.

  • sorry to hear you weren’t a fan. minis were the way to go tho…this one’s a killer.

funny you say it’s lighter than expected, this thing weighed a ton when i hefted a mini in my hand. it was yummy, but i think it could def do with some adaptations..next time!! yours looks fab.

  • Too bad this wasn’t your favorite, but good for you for making it!
