Healthy Super Bowl Recipes: Roasted Garbanzos (Chickpeas)
The fifth munchie we have for our Super Bowl Healthy Eats Series is roasted garbanzos (chickpeas) – think wasabi peas. Garbanzos as roasted with olive oil, sea salt and whatever seasonings you are craving.

We eat a lot of garbanzos at our house, in the form of a meal or hummus. It was great to find a new way to eat them as a snack. This particular time I seasoned them with some powdered curry which is always a great pairing with garbanzos – they were gone in less than 30 minutes! They are also good seasoned with a spicy pepper such as Espelette pepper.
Put out bowls of these at your next party and they will be gone before you know it!
Recipe: Roasted Garbanzos
2 cans of garbanzos, drained and patted dry (this is very important) – I use a paper towel and lightly pat them dry, don’t mush them
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons curry powder
sea salt to taste
Heat oven to 400. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Spread out onto a cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then stir. Bake for another 15 minutes or until crunchy.

Mmm…mm…mmmm. I love garbanzos and now I’m telling myself why I’ve never thought of these. Btw, do you just lay the garbanzos on paper towels to dry them? I know…stupid question.

What a fantastic idea! Sounds like a delicious and healthy snack.
Just came from trying your recipe this evening with my wife. Really tasty and your writing is cool, fun, easy to follow. Great writing.
As for the recipe, this was quite a change: we usually use garbanzos in sauces or in salads (boiled). In the latest version (as a salad) it is so refreshing and quite reach out perfectly with the idea of using them as snacks.
I am loving your healthy recipes. Thanks!
We eat a boatload of chickpeas every week. Such a great side dish in place of potatoes or rice. I never roasted them with curry though – I usually stick to salt and pepper. Love your photo!!
I’ve been wanting these for ages but whenever I attempt I wind up burning them. Need to give it another shot!
We loved these right out of the oven, and I great snack when you have a bunch of crazy allergies in one house. NOBODY appears to allergic to garbanzo’s!
We were interested in knowing if you usually toast these until actually crunchy. We were a bit less enchanted with the leftovers when they were cold. Perhaps we should have toasted longer?
